Teen Scene News

Looking for something fun and rewarding to do this summer?  Why not become a summer reading volunteer at Galesburg Public Library! Summer reading volunteers help the library manage the Children's Summer Reading Program by staffing the registration table and signing children up for the program, handing out prizes, helping prepare crafts and activities, helping with children's programs, and more. Summer reading volunteers must be students entering 7th-12th grade or in college, and must be willing to volunteer one 2-hour shift per week from June 3rd-July 27th. Sound like the volunteer opportunity for you?  Stop by the Reference Desk, or call 343-6118 and ask for Melinda!

Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe (Benjamin Alire Saenz)

(From publisher description) Aristotle is an angry teen with a brother in prison. Dante is a know-it-all who has an unusual way of looking at the world. When the two meet at the swimming pool, they seem to have nothing in common. But as the loners start spending time together, they discover that they share a special friendship—the kind that changes lives and lasts a lifetime. And it is through this friendship that Ari and Dante will learn the most important truths about themselves and the kind of people they want to be.

This is What Happy Looks Like (Jennifer E. Smith)

(From publisher description) When teenage movie star Graham Larkin accidentally sends small town girl Ellie O'Neill an email about his pet pig, the two seventeen-year-olds strike up a witty and unforgettable correspondence, discussing everything under the sun, except for their names or backgrounds. Then Graham finds out that Ellie's Maine hometown is the perfect location for his latest film, and he decides to take their relationship from online to in-person. But can a star as famous as Graham really start a relationship with an ordinary girl like Ellie? And why does Ellie want to avoid the media's spotlight at all costs?
