Get to know Carl Sandburg, one of the most revered figures in American literature, with Galesburg Public Library’s One Read.
One Read is a community-wide read created to unite residents to read, discuss, and experience a great book. This year we will be reading Always the Young Strangers, a tale of Galesburg's past.

One Read is sponsored in part by a generous grant from the Galesburg Community Foundation.

Galesburg Trivia Night

One Read: Carl Sandburg will kick off on Thursday, March 29, 2012. At 6:30 p.m. we will be hosting a Galesburg-themed Trivia Night at the library. Prizes will be awarded to the top 3 teams.

Not an expert on Galesburg? Have no fear! There will be plenty of questions for all types of interests. This event is free and open to all, but donations will be accepted for the Carl Sandburg Historic Site Association.

Teams can consist of 2-8 people. Space is limited, so sign up your team today by emailing karly.steele@galesburglibrary.org, or calling the reference department at 343-6118.

Book Discussions

Interested in attending a book discussion? We have several book discussions scheduled, just check our calendar or call the Galesburg Public Library. If you are interested in hosting your own book discussion, please contact the Galesburg Public Library at 343-6118 for materials and assistance.

John Hallwas

On Tuesday, April 24 at 6:30 p.m. Galesburg Public Library will host John E. Hallwas. Using the poetry of Carl Sandburg, Hallwas will examine issues such as struggle, equity, identity, and the meaning of the American work experience. A writer, speaker, and adult-education leader, John E. Hallwas is Distinguished Professor Emeritus at Western Illinois University.

This program is made possible in part by an award from the Illinois Humanities Council, the National Endowment for the Humanities, and the Illinois General Assembly.

The Big Write

For the fifth year, we are hosting a creative writing contest. The deadline is Thursday, March 1. Materials may be emailed to bigwrite@galesburglibrary.org, dropped off in person at the library, or mailed to Writing Contest, Galesburg Public Library, 40 E Simmons St., Galesburg, IL 61401. Sandburg Days Festival of the Mind

Starting April 19, 2012, Sandburg Days Festival of the Mind activities begin. From family friendly musical entertainment to the Chicago- based Marc Smith Poetry Slam, this year's festival will have something for everyone. Check the calendar for more details.
