Library Archives

Due to the priceless and, in many cases, irreplaceable nature of some Archive materials, they are only to be used in the library and when the archivist is available. For security reasons, if the library archivist is not available, most archival materials cannot be retrieved by Reference staff. Anyone making a special trip to the Galesburg Public Library to use archival materials is encouraged to call ahead (309-343-6118) to ensure that the archivist and the materials will be available. This will ensure that you are not disappointed when you visit. Library staff appreciate your cooperation in safeguarding this priceless and irreplaceable collection. Click here for more details.

Sunday Hours

Sunday hours from 1:00 to 5:00 pm resume on September 7. The library will hold an ice cream social that day to mark the return of Sunday hours after the summer break. You are invited to join us for a trip back to 1958. Enjoy some ice cream, be amazed by the magic tricks of Rick Brammer, and take in the 1958 movie classic The Blob. The social runs from 2:00-4:00 pm, and all ages are welcome. Many thanks to Hy-Vee Food Stores for sponsoring the social!

Online Catalog

Please contact the library (343-6118) for your PIN (also called a password) if you would like to log in to your library card account to renew items or put yourself on the wait list by placing a hold.

Movie of the Book Club

Do you love movies? Do you love books? If you answered yes, the library's Movie of the Book Club is for you! The group meets monthly in the evening to watch a new movie that is connected to literature. We head to Perkins Restaurant afterwards for discussion. Movies are also shown periodically on the big screen upstairs at the library. Click here for more information!

Notary Public Services

Notary public services are available at the library. The purpose of notarization is to prevent fraud and forgery. To get a document notarized, you must come to the library in person and bring an ID that contains a photo and a signature. There is no charge for notary service. Although a notary will normally be available whenever the library is open, there will be times when none is available. If you are making a special trip, please call ahead to make sure a notary public will be available to assist you.

The Big Read

A big thank you to everyone who participated in this year's Big Read event by reading A Farewell to Arms by Ernest Hemingway and attending related activities. Next year's book will be Mark Twain's Tom Sawyer. Watch for news about it next spring.

Congratulations to the winners of the Big Write, the library's first creative writing contest, which was held in conjunction with the Big Read. The contest received over 150 entries of poems, song lyrics, and short stories from four age groups.  The Big Write is funded by the Friends of the Galesburg Public Library.
