Library Archives

Due to the priceless and, in many cases, irreplaceable nature of some Archive materials, they are only to be used in the library and when the archivist is available. For security reasons, if the library archivist is not available, most archival materials cannot be retrieved by Reference staff. Anyone making a special trip to the Galesburg Public Library to use archival materials is encouraged to call ahead (309-343-6118) to ensure that the archivist and the materials will be available. This will ensure that you are not disappointed when you visit. Library staff appreciate your cooperation in safeguarding this priceless and irreplaceable collection. Click here for more details.

Online Catalog

Please contact the library (343-6118) for your PIN (also called a password) if you would like to log in to your library card account to renew items or put yourself on the wait list by placing a hold.

Movie of the Book Club

Do you love movies? Do you love books? If you answered yes, the library's Movie of the Book Club is for you! The group meets monthly in the evening to watch a new movie that is connected to literature. We head to Perkins Restaurant afterwards for discussion. Movies are also shown periodically on the big screen upstairs at the library. Click here for more information!

Notary Public Services

Notary public services are available at the library. The purpose of notarization is to prevent fraud and forgery. To get a document notarized, you must come to the library in person and bring an ID that contains a photo and a signature. There is no charge for notary service. Although a notary will normally be available whenever the library is open, there will be times when none is available. If you are making a special trip, please call ahead to make sure a notary public will be available to assist you.

Spanish Language Section

Area residents are invited to check out the improved Spanish Language section at the library. New nonfiction titles include the 2009 Guiness World Records, PCs for Dummies, Favorite American Recipes in Spanish and English, What to Expect When You're Expecting, Improvements for the Home 1-2-3, the Merck Manual, and The Audacity of Hope by Barack Obama. New Fiction titles include J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series, the Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer, Philip Pullman’s series His Dark Materials, Eragon by Christopher Paolini, and titles by Danielle Steel and John Grisham.

The Spanish Language collection is located under the wall clock at the beginning of the regular nonfiction section in the Adult Services area of the library. Signage is posted to help patrons find the material. As Spanish Language books are added to the collection, they will be shelved in a “New” area at the beginning of the section. Library staff welcome suggestions of additional books to add to the collection. The library’s Children’s Room also has books in Spanish. Whether a patron wants to learn Spanish words from a dictionary or how to count in Spanish, resources are available. Picture books in Spanish and Junie B. Jones are also represented in Spanish.
