January Family Reading Program

Pop Open a Good Book

The January reading program will benefit the FISH food pantry this year. Come to the Children's Room and pick up a family reading log. For every hour your family reads, each child will receive a popcorn sticker to display on the giant "popcorn box." For each hour read, your family will also have the opportunity to bring in a donation for FISH. Upon completing the program, each child may also choose a new paperback book and receive a  token for an ice cream cone from Happy Joe's of Galesburg.

Popcorn Activity Night Tues. Jan 31 from 6-7 PM

To conclude the month of "Pop Open a Good Book," there will be a family activity night all about popcorn! There will be games, prizes, and snacks. The $1 preregistration fee is due by Jan 24.

 

Knitting/Crocheting Classes

Every Tues. in January from 6-8 there will be a class to learn the basics or just come to share your projects.

If you are a beginner, please bring 4 ply yarn and size 10 knitting needles or size H crochet hook.

 

 

Dine With Cat in the Hat Thurs. Feb. 16.

$1 tickets per person will be available for the 5-6 PM or 6:30-7:30 PM session. The menu will include cat-shaped baloney sandwiches, Kitty Krunchies (chips), Meow Munchies (carrots), Purrrfect Punch, One-Fish Two-Fish Jello, and Birthday Cake. There will also be face-painting, crafts, stories, and your picture taken with The Cat in the Hat.

 

 

                       

  

Lego Night 4:30 - 5:30

The second Tues. of the month, Feb. 14, Mar. 13, and April 10, come to the library and build build.

            

Cook-A-Book         Family Activity Night   Tues. Mar. 13 6-7PM

We will be reading Little Mouse's Big Secret, Pete's a Pizza, Betty Bunny Loves Chocolate Cake, the Butter Man, Lucky Pennies and Hot Chocolate, and preparing food corresponding to each book. Preregistration of $1 is due by Mar. 6.      

 

Book Bites -               Books and Snacks

The fourth Tues. of Jan., Feb., Mar., and April, from 6:30 - 7:30 PM in the Hiler Room. Children 8-11 will have an opportunity to share a book they have read.

There will be a theme for each month and students may read any book relating to that theme. We will have several titles to choose if you need some ideas. There will also be theme related snacks.

This book club is in conjunction with the teen book club, "Chapter Chompers," that meets at the same date and time in the Sanderson Room.

 

Geoff Akins -          The Bubble Man      Wed. April 4 at 1 PM

International bubble artist, Geoffrey Akins, creates moments of wonder and awe during his captivating and hilarious "bubbleology" performance. Audiences watch spellbound as Akins does the most amazing things with ordinary soap bubbles. He makes huge, wobbly Electric Dancing bubbles, blows bubbles inside bubbles, and creates intricate sculptures like bubble caterpillars, ice cream cones, snowmen, smoke-filled volcano bubbles, the impossible square bubble and a fully functional bubble merry-go-round. He can even place a child inside a bubble!.

 

 

American Girls Club     May 5 at 11 AM

Marie-Grace and Cecile will be the featured girls. they are friends from New Orleans during 1853. There will be crafts and food from that time period. Pregiregistration of $1 is due by April 28.
