The library provides access to the Internet as part of its research, education and information services. Library users may use the Internet for educational and informational purposes only. No game playing, gaming or chatting is permitted. Each individual is permitted one hour of use per day. Access to the Internet is governed by the library's Internet Use policy. Library card holders may access the Internet using their library card number. Cards are not transferable. Non-resident library users should inquire at the Reference Desk about guest use of the internet.
The Internet provides access to information and resources from a wide variety of sources that may not otherwise be available at the library. However the library has no control over the information, images or opinions available to users through the Internet. The library is also not responsible for the accuracy, authority, legality or currency of the information. Further, the library can not protect its users from information, content or images which they might find offensive or disturbing.
The library reminds parents and guardians that they have the responsibility to oversee their child's exposure to and use of the Internet. The library computers are located in public areas. Therefore, the library encourages all users to be considerate and respectful of others when accessing information or images others may find offensive or disturbing.
Public use computers are available in the adult and children's departments. The public use computers in the adult services area are for use by individuals age 15 and over. The public use computers in the children's room are for use by individuals age 14 and younger, or parents with small children with them.
Individuals 14 years of age and under must have an "Internet Registration and User Agreement" signed by a parent or legal guardian on file at the library. The Internet Registration and User Agreement form is part of the Internet Use Policy. Although available online, the form must be completed and signed by the parent or legal guardian at the library. Forms are also available in the children's room.
Individuals with unpaid fines and fees in excess of $5 may be restricted from using the public use computers. Individuals found violating the Internet Use policy may be restricted permanently from using the public use computers.
The library offers wireless "WiFi" access to the library's Internet service for properly equipped laptops and other devices. When you use the wireless service in the library you are accepting the terms and conditions of the library's Wireless Policy. Please take the time to read the policy before accessing the network.
You may connect for as long as you like. A username and password are needed; ask at the Reference Desk for this information. It changes monthly. A charged battery is likely to be required as the library has only a few accessible electrical outlets near tables. There is currently no print service available via the wireless service. You are of course welcome to use the public access computers for printing needs.
Please note that library staff cannot assist you with your laptop or other device, its wireless card, or its configuration. The library cannot accept liability for the handling of your equipment.
