Book sale. The Friends of the Library spring book sale is May 30, May 31, and June. Click here for details.
Tech Tutors. Tech Tutors is a free service for senior citizens and other adults who want to learn or improve basic computer skills. Tech Tutors are trained young adults who volunteer their time to provide one-on-one computer training and technical assistance at the library in a relaxed, pressure-free environment. Tech Tutors are available to teach a variety of topics, including using a computer keyboard and mouse; creating and using an email account; using the internet; searching and applying for jobs online; utilizing e-readers; and more. Provided by appointment only. To make an appointment, contact the Reference Desk at 343-6118.
Movie discussion group. The movie group meets in the evening at least once a month on the third Tuesday to watch a new movie at the AMC Showplace or a newly released DVD at the library. The group sees movies based on books or otherwise connected to literature whenever possible. A discussion at Perkins Restaurant on Henderson Street follows. The next outing will be the evening of Tuesday, May 21, to see the 6:55 pm showing of The Great Gatsby. Click here for more information on the movie and other programs for adults.
Animanga Mania. Teens, join us for Animanga Mania Afternoons! On May 29 from 3:30-4:30, we’ll be watching an anime series & drawing manga-style. No registration required. Click here for more information on programs for teens.
Downloadable books. The Alliance Digital Media Library is the library’s downloadable audio and ebook service. More than 90 central Illinois libraries participate. Book review blog. Looking for a book recommendation? Or want to be warned away from a bad one? Check out Books You Can Die in the Middle of, a blog of book reviews by Galesburg Public Library staff and friends. (Writer P.J. O'Rourke advises, "Always read something that will make you look good if you die in the middle of it.") We are also looking for reviewers; please send an email to reference@galesburglibrary.org if you are interested in reviewing advance copies of books for the blog.
