Science Fiction/Fantasy Book Club. The library is starting a new science fiction/fantasy book club. The first discussion will be of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams, on Friday, February 17 at 6:00 pm at Alternate Realities (238 E. Main Steet). Presidents' Day Program. Get swept up in the excitement of Theodore Roosevelt's campaign for president with performer Darrel Draper on Monday, February 20 at 6:30 pm. Draper is one of the most requested speakers in the Nebraska Humanities Council’s Speakers Bureau Program. For adults and kids age 10 and up. Free!
The Big Write and the One Read. The library is now accepting submissions to its annual creative writing contest. The deadline is Thursday, March 1. Click here for complete details. The Big Write is part of the One Read 2012. The One Read author is Carl Sandburg. The One Read is made possible by a grant from the Galesburg Community Foundation. Lego Mania. On February 14, March 13, and April 10, families are invited to come to the library for Lego building from 4:30 to 5:30 pm. Click here for information on other programs for children.
Sweet & Sour Valentine's Day Party for teens. Valentine's Day: you either love it or you love to hate it. Why not do both at the library's Sweet & Sour Valentine's Day Party? Decorate broken heart cookies, make your own valentines (or anti-valentines), "vandalize" the covers of romance novels, play games, and more! Open to teens aged 12-18 (or grades 6-12). Movie Club. The library's movie club meets at least once a month to see a new movie with a literary connection. The next outing to the AMC Showplace will be on Tuesday, February 21. For more information on the movie club and events for adults, click here.
Downloadable books. The Alliance Digital Media Library is the library’s downloadable audio and ebook service. More than 60 central Illinois libraries participate in this service through OverDrive. Check out Books You Can Die in the Middle of, a blog of book reviews by Galesburg Public Library staff and friends. (Writer P.J.
