Library cards

Anyone living in Galesburg, including a Knox College student, or owning property within the city limits is eligible for a free library card.

If you do not live within the city limits of Galesburg, you may purchase an annual non-resident card that is good for the entire family. The non-resident fee is equal to the current library tax rate applied to the assessed valuation of your principal residence (excluding farm buildings and farm land values). A non-resident property owner pays the same amount for a library card that a city resident pays on a comparable property within the city limits of Galesburg. A copy of the most recent tax bill will be required for verification.

Non-resident renters pay 15 percent of their monthly rent for the annual non-resident fee card. A copy of a current rent receipt or payment will be required for verification.

Four month short term residency cards are available for $25 for temporary visitors such as visiting artists, students, workers or consultants. Additional information is available at the library or by email from the circulation desk.

Applications are available at the Library. Photo identification and proof of current address must be presented at the time of application. A parent or legal guardian must provide identification and sign the application for individuals under the age of 18. In some cases, a tax bill may be required.
