Thanksgiving. The library will close at 5:00 pm on Wednesday, Nov. 25 and will be closed all day on Thursday, Nov. 26. Happy Thanksgiving!
The Movie of the Book Club meets in the evening at least once a month to see a new movie with a literary connection. We will meet to see the 7:30 pm showing of The Blind Side on Tuesday, November 24, at the Showplace 8 Theaters. The Blind Side is based on a book and a true story. We'll head to Perkins Restaurant afterwards for discussion. Both the movie and Perkins are pay-your-own-way. If you would like to receive email updates about the club, please send an email message to reference@galesburglibrary.org. Newcomers welcome! Click here for more information about the book and movie clubs.
Downloadable Books. A new downloadable e-book and audio service will be available in early 2010. In the meantime, check out our collection of Playaways. Playaways are audio players preloaded with one audiobook. Search the catalog for "playaway" to see a list. Thank you for your interest and your patience!
Make Your Own Holiday Cards. Children in 1st-5th grades are invited to create their own holiday cards on Saturday, Nov. 28, from 11:00 am to noon at the library. The materials will be provided, but a $1 registration fee is due in the Childrens Room by Saturday, Nov. 21.
True Crime! We’ve recently added to our paperback collection of True Crime books and made a special place for them in the library. They can be found along the wall near the Spanish Collection and the Science Fiction paperbacks. Look for the True Crime label on the books. The location is a bit out of the way, so please ask library staff if you need assistance. (True Crime books are also located in the Non-Fiction section at number 364.)
Email notification. Would you like to receive email notification of an item waiting for you at the library instead of receiving a phone call? Add an email address to your library card account. You can do this yourself by logging in to your account with your library card number and personal identification number (PIN). Be sure you use an email address you check regularly; in the near future, anyone with an email address will only receive an email when holds are available and when items are overdue. Currently, we send an email and call you (if we have your phone number).
Tri-States Audio Information Services. Visually impaired, learning impaired and physically impaired patrons may be eligible for a free radio reading service through Western Illinois University. The service provides radios which are made to receive special frequency broadcasted readings of a variety of newspapers and magazines. Applications may be found on the top of shelving in the audio books section of the library, or stop by the Reference Desk for assistance. You may also call the audio information service at 309-298-2403.

Animanga Mania. Teens, come to the library for Animanga Mania once a month on Wednesday afternoons. We watch anime series, swap manga, and host an open-draw session upstairs. You can even cosplay! No registration required; just show up to watch, swap and draw. Snacks and materials are provided. The next Animanga Mania will take place on December 16 at 3:30 pm.
