How to Buy a Computer class: Are you interested in buying a computer but unsure how to make the best decision? Twice in July, the library is offering a session on How to Buy a Computer. At the session, you’ll learn how to find the right computer and what to consider prior to purchase. The session will be taught by Linda Lee, Computer Information Instructor at Carl Sandburg College. The session will be offered on Tuesday, July 15, from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. and again on Tuesday, July 22, from 6:00-7:30 p.m. You do not need to have any computer experience to attend, but registration is required. Stop by the Reference Desk to sign up and to pay the $1 registration fee.
The library will hold an ice cream social on Sunday, September 7, to mark the return of Sunday hours after the summer break. You are invited to join us for a trip back to 1958. Enjoy some ice cream, be amazed by the magic tricks of Rick Brammer, and take in the 1958 movie classic The Blob. The social runs from 2:00-4:00 pm, and all ages are welcome.
Summer Reading at the Galesburg Public Library officially began on June 2 and continues through July 26. Children, young adults, and adults are all encouraged to participate. All logs must be completed, tickets turned in, and prizes redeemed by 5:00 pm on July 26.
Book and Movie Clubs
Movie of the Book Club
The Movie of the Book Club meets in the evening at the Showplace 8 Theaters at least once a month to see a new movie with a literary connection. We head to Perkins Restaurant afterwards for discussion. If you would like to receive email updates about what movies we are going to see and the exact times of the showings, please send an email message to reference@galesburglibrary.org.
Our next outing will be on Tuesday, July 15, at the Showplace 8 in the evening. The exact title and time will be announced about a week before, but chances are good we'll see the new movie version of Jules Verne's classic book A Journey to the Centre of the Earth.
